TOM LEWIS PAGE Tom Lewis has kindly given me permission to publish these articles on this site. Copyright Ó Tom Lewis 1999 Introduction. Tom Lewis started in
budgerigars in 1971 when he brought them for his young sons. As usually happens
they lost interest but the birds “grew on me” especially when he met some
good local champion who supplies him with good stock. He bought his first
rings in 1975 from the Western Counties Budgerigar & Foreign Bird Society
and joined the Budgerigar Society in 1977. Tom and his father have been in
livestock since the late 1940’s when they bred poultry. Tom lives in the
ancient market town of Yate, which was originally called Gate when it was the
gateway to the Kings forest. Cattle markets were held at the gate. Tom has made a lot of
friends in the fancy and has received and given a great deal of goodwill.
Generosity that has been extended to other fanciers has been returned in good
measure. Birds that you could have paid hundreds of pounds for have changed
hands as gifts or exchanges. Tom has given many talks over the years but his main topics are how keeping birds does not have to be an expensive hobby, and is known for his problem solving and devices used in the fancy. |
