TREATMENT OF BIRDS Cleaning the shed This
is a very important annual event. The shed needs to have all birds removed,
ideally into another building or into the outside flight. The shed then needs to
have all it’s contents removed and cleaned individually. All seed husks and
droppings need to he removed. The shed should be scraped down and any dust
removed. Hot water and detergent should be used to get the shed “kitchen
clean”. The detergent is rinsed off and then disinfectants can he used as
appropriate. “Duramitex” is an organophosphorous wash which will kill any
insects or mites. Only use it if you have a problem. “Virkon”
is a useful agent which will eliminate viruses, fungi and bacteria. Rinse well
between agents. Ideally leave the shed empty for one month. Annual
